{I *heart* sponge bob square pants}
The week I was in Texas, I went out for what was supposed to be a 3 mile run. I would just like to say, I don't see how anyone runs outdoors during summer months in Texas! Oh my Lord.....it was already 100 degrees by 11am. One day we saw 115 pop up on the digital read out Dad has hooked up to the back patio. BLAH! Since I was up until 2 - 3:30AM almost every night cooking for Mom, I was too exhausted to go for a run at dawn. Needless to say, I took the week off after one feeble attempt with a 1.25 mile run. lol Runners in Texas, I admire you to no end if you can handle running in that awful heat!
I did manage to add cross training into my routine as I wanted. It wasn't enough, but I did get started with it. [Baby steps.] Our workout area in the garage is STILL a work in progress. The funniest part of that project is, we started making the area because we felt as though we would never get a house. Well, we got one! We close on the house in just a few weeks. September 24th to be exact. So, I'm not sure how much further we'll work on the "workout area". lol That's OK, though! All of the stuff we bought and made for it will go directly into the garage of our new house! YAY!!!!
As far as running & training for the Portland Half Marathon goes, taking the week off during my Texas visit put me behind a week with training. I was supposed to hammer out a 7 mile run this week. I did a 6 mile run instead. So....I need to go through and change the dates on my training schedule so I'll quit confusing myself. Honestly, I don't think being 1 mile off is going to make a difference come 10-10-10. So I'm not taking being off by a mile as a negative. It is what it is. However, it does mean I did not make it to my monthly goal of a 7 or 8 mile "weekly long run". I'm almost there, though!
Summing It Up: Other than not making it to my monthly mileage long run goal, my base runs are getting longer. My pace is still all over the place, and the outcome very much depends on how I'm feeling that day. If I'm well rested, I haul ass. If we've logged a few miles for the week already, it show up in my pace late in the week. My knee is tender, but holding up quite well considering the mileage creeps higher each week. We introduced the P90X workout dvd system into our lives for cross training. For some reason, I've not popped in a single dvd since returning home from Dallas. Funny how things like that happen. Especially to me...because I hate exercise. Positive self talk for this topic flew out the window years ago. I rather enjoy sitting quite a lot. I'm woman enough to fess up. Clearly, I have a couple of goals to set for September! lol All in all, I'm still at it. That's really all that matters. :)

Yes, we runners in Texas go at (actually before) dawn -- between 5 and 6 a.m. is best. But you have to know that going into it. Obviously you can't stay up until 2 or 3. You go to bed on time, get up at the hairy butt crack of dawn, do your run, then do whatever you would have done in the middle of the night you do all morning long.
For this reason, the only time I sleep past 6 a.m. is when I go to late service at church since Sunday is my rest day. Cannot WAIT for cooler weather -- in November!
Another Texas gal here!
I usually run in the AM, however, while it's cooler, just before dawn is the most humid part of the day. I actually have a harder time with the humidity than the heat. But for my schedule, early AM works better for me, especially for longer runs
I'm not a Texas runner, but a Louisiana runner, so you can add in some humidity to the heat! I cannot run before 6:00 pm.
Heather, one of my FAVORITE bloggers, check out my post today. You got a blog award.
I'm not sure if I'm doing it the way everyone else does the blog awards, but I posted it on my blog for you!
