My new food journal cover (it's a-friggin'-dorable)

You know my pathetic story.  Sewing keeps my hands out of the bag of chips.  So...I sew.  Whatever.   My latest homemade project?  Covers for 3 ring binders.  I really only wanted one for my fugly food journal 1/2" binder that has duct tape down part of the spine to hold it together after an unfortunate accident.  However, now I'm hooked & feel the need to make one for every binder I own.  They're too much fun!

The first one was a flop. Why, oh why did I bother embroidering on a first run item?  I know better than that.  Sure enough, I screwed it up royally, and it will not fit on a binder to save its own life.  Kind of like me trying to squeeze into a pair of size 2 jeans.  Not gonna happen, folks.  Literally, one screw up morphed into another.  It's a simple binder cover.  How in the world could I have messed it up so much?  Blah!  So I'm going to use it to cover the spiral notebook I make my grocery lists in each week.  At least I can use it for something considering how much time went into it. Needless to say, that one kept me busy for quite a while.  No snackin' for this weight watchin' chick! I was too busy beating my head against the cutting table in a tantrum of frustration.

So I had a couple of hours to do whatever I wanted today.  [Side note: Did I mention I took today off & made a point to celebrate the day after mother's day all alone as if it's a real holiday or something?  In a quiet house.  I can hear clocks ticking.  The neighbor's lawn mower.  My own heart beating.  The cat snoring.  Drinking lots and lots of coffee.  I refuse to answer phone calls or the door.  It's a joyous day!  But the quiet will end in about 15 minutes when the kids arrive home so I better finish up this blog post.]  Anyway, I was able to crank out another cover today just to prove that I can follow directions for a simple project.  Made sure to use fabric I have plenty of...just in case.  No time sucking embroidery.  Just a groovy glam girl cover.  PERFECT!  This one will be slapped onto my food journal because it's so much fun.  So in a very official way, [drum roll, please] I present to you my brand spankin' new food journal cover........

 {interior right flap with 2 vertical pockets for loose papers}

Do whatever it takes to make your food journal special.  Some of my peeps are totally sold on using their iphone with the WW app.  Others are hardcore online journaling junkies.  Many like the little books sold in Weight Watchers meeting rooms.  I am a simple gal...with simple needs.  Give me a notebook full of paper, a pencil, and a kick ass binder cover made in my sweatshop sewing room - I'm good to go.

I LOVE THESE COVERS!!! Wow, they are cool and really spiff up a plain binder. Nicely done, Heather. I'm completely sewing machine challenged, so I'm just in awe of your skills. ~Krista

I agree with ALL of the above! Great job! Hey, I picked up a single piece if drapery at thrift store this wee just because I loved the fabric. Now I just have to find a new easy project to use it. Wish I had your talent with the sewing machine, but I'm learning. Baby steps.

Love these binder covers! Any chancec they'll show up on Etsy? And maybe in different sizes? Like maybe small enough to fit a WW Pocket Guide?

Heather said...

Sandi, I don't see why not! Measure your journal for me, if you would. Is the cover 4x6 & about 6x8.25 inches if you open the book flat? I don't have a 2010 version, but multiple years worth of other journals from WW. lol

Thanks, guys!!!!! I've been cutting extra fabric panels in my spare time, and hope to have a few listed on etsy soon. I made a new one last night that is the *ULTIMATE* version. Loads of pockets and cubbies to stash stuff. I'll make all different versions to suit multiple price ranges / budgets. I want all of the money from selling them to go into my Marathon For The Cure fund under each customer's name (as a donation). FUN!!!!!

I'll have to make something for those who donated before I started making these. :)

I'm in for one when you're starting making them for donations...pink, of course. :)

Several people asked me to start selling the binder / journal covers I've been making for myself. I finally listed one on Esty made from the beautiful Paris Flea Market line of Moda fabric. Lots and lots of interior pockets. Hope to get another one or two listed over the weekend, but I haven't had much time to sew lately. Someone needs to crack the whip on me. lol

***All proceeds go toward my Susan G Komen Marathon For The Cure fundraiser goal!***

I finished another one to sell! I wish I could sew all day long. That would be GREAT!

This one has lots of pinks and lime greens. Super cute. I wouldn't mind keeping it for myself if it doesn't sell :)

Reen, what kind of pinks would you like? Do you have a theme in mind? Or a line of fabric you really love?

Heather, I'm a pink girl. Everyone makes fun of me 'cause everything is pink. :)

So no real preference. I think a pink floral/pink stripe combination would be awesome. I like the pinks and lime green combination too. Dark pink, light pink, purple pink, pink pink, just love pink!

:)

You're so talented.

Great cover Heather!

I noticed WW starting selling covers at the meetings too. They fit on the 3 months food journal that they sell.

I personally am sold out on the iphone/ipod WW app, even though it's not endorsed by WW (we all know it is the program though).
It's really useful and easy to carry around. Plus, nobody can tell I'm logging points, it just looks like I'm typing on my phone. :-)
