The lazy chick way to grow strawberries

With so much going on right now & everything being up in the air with where we'll be living two, four, twelve weeks from now, I can't decide whether to plan a big veggie garden as we have in years past.  So I've decided to take on a few planter garden spots for now.  I started with strawberries in hanging baskets.

{you might not be able to see them, but the plant is loaded with baby berries!}

{they're turning out perfect, and taste so much better than store bought!}

These are the same baskets I used last summer for upside down tomato planters.  I was simply too lazy to plant the berries upside down as I did the tomatoes.  I've never in my life grown any kind of berry, so I'm excited to see these doing well.  They're fabulous on my homemade yogurt.

Growing your own food gives you a whole new appreciation for what you eat.  I find myself hoarding the berries after picking them.  I want to enjoy every bite.  Anyone out there have gardens in the works this season?

Yep. I have some herbs, cherry tomatoes, and some strawberry plants in pots in my flower garden. I also hope to plant our big garden this year. Better get to it soon!

Mmmmm. I can't believe you already have ripe berries. Guess it's just to cold here in ohio. LOL

No! Ohio is perfect for berry growing right now. I'm just north of Cincinnati. Just a few minutes from Kings Island. Go buy some berry plants ASAP. They're fabulous. :)

My garden is growing by leaps and bounds now that it is actually starting to warm up in the Pacific Northwest. I have blueberries, tomatoes, arugala, nappa cabbage, lettuces galore, herbs galore, squashes winter and summer, peppers, eggplants, carrots, parsnips, green beans and more I think. I LOVE growing my own food. I know what's in it, it's cheap and it tastes soooo good, nothing like picking corn and putting it in the pot a minute later :)

I want to grow my own strawberries! Is it difficult?

Alison, I'm GREEN with envy over your garden! It sounds wonderful.

Summah, so far all I've done is stick the plants in the pot & water them every other day. They're really easy, and the slugs can't eat them if they're hanging in a pot instead of growing in the ground. :)
