Everyone loooves to hear tips that help those of us trying to either create or maintain a healthy lifestyle. Here's what the four winners contributed when asked,
"Do you ever substitute healthier options into dishes you cook to lower the caloric value or to mimic a higher calorie dish? If so, what's something you substitute regularly?"
Diana ....
fat free yogurt for sour cream, boca crumbles for ground beef in all sorts of recipes - from stuffed peppers to chili
Lauren...
I usually substitute ground turkey meat for ground beef! I was leery of it at first because I thought my husband would find out...he's kinda picky! But, we LOVE it! Another way I cut calories: ranch carrots. Rather than using two tablespoons of ranch dressing and consuming ~120 calories, dumping two tablespoons of the dry dressing mix into a ziploc bag of carrots and shaking it up causes you to get the same flavor and only consume about 10 whole calories! (A great thing I found from a friend!) Yum.
Alissa...
I often substitue Splenda for sugar to try to lower the calories.
Dana...
I try to use the leanest ground beef, but have not yet tried Boca and would love the chance to. I also use brown rice a lot in place of pasta.
As usual, I will try to get a full list (or close to full) of all of the helpful tips passed my way during the giveaway. Look for it this weekend sometime. Thanks, Boca / Kraft Foods for making this giveaway possible!!!!!
